fika with agata

well, what the heck is fika, you ask. let me tell you, i write.

fika is the nice easy word used to describe catching a nice cup of coffee and pastry with a friend or anyone. swedes fika a lot! we have no starbucks (damn it) but have many bakeries and coffee shops that cater to this obsession. a good obsession to have , i might say, just allows one to take it easy and its ok.

so, last saturday, agata, my friend from swedish class (last term) asked me to fika! i said sure, as we are not in the same class this term, it would be good to catch up. agata podroska is from poland, has a swedish/polish fianceƩ and is about 25 years old. very sweet girl. and the best part of our friendship is that she doesn't speak english and i don't speak polish (or i think i don't) and so we MUST converse in swedish. and her swedish is waaaaaay better than mine, so im the winner in this gig. so, this in turn just helps us out to get better with this new language we must become better at, living here in sverige (sweden in swedish).

agata was too sweet and also gave me a present. what would a polish person give? polish chocolate , of course! i like chocolate, in any language...i think its the one thing i can safely eat without reading the ingredient label (being the vegetarian that i am). so, that was very kind of her to think of me on your travels back home, which she does often as her parents and brother are there and its such a close trip.

so, moral of the story. friends are good. friends bearing chocolate, better.

the end (for now)
